Heh, sorry, but I put the marks around "loose" and lost the whole word.
I am such a nitpicker and a pedant, and this is where it really shows. Just had to throw in the post again to correct that little error. You couldn't take the first one down, could you? Heh, thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip on Zotero, a great contribution, and I am on my way to download it, but first:

This is the spelling police, on a (futile?) crusade to stop the misspelling of "loose" for "lose."
At first, I thought it was only the netkids making this error, a "cool" variant, as in, for example, "definatly" (which is quickly outgrown), but no, I am finding it used by PhD candidates, even. What is the world coming to?

To quote you, if I may:

"Find a book in Amazon and either jot down the title on a piece of paper or do a screen print both of which you might loose [don't you mean 'lose'?] in the clutter of your desk."

"Your research will be scattered throughout multiple locations on your PC and, possibly, loose [lost?]on your actual desk."

Please don't take offense ^_^ - I find this error pervasive, and I think it is the result of a generation grown up on spell checkers, in which "loose" is not tagged as an error. I won't be a bit surprised if it makes its way to the dictionary, at which time I shall be rolling over in my grave.

For a quick way to collect everyday information, such as online receipts, webpages or portions thereof, I use a combination of Firefox 3.0, the Google toolbar, a Gmail account, (and/or Blogger), and a Windows Live.com account. It is fabulously easy!
If you want the entire webpage, either right click or find the option in your Google toolbar and choose "Send to" Gmail, Blogger, or mobile. The whole page with live links and the address at the top will load right into the body of an email, subject line filled, and address blank. You can edit, hilite, change font, etc, before you send. If you want part of the page, just hilite what you want, then same thing.
I really like MS's new Live.com suite of goodies. Got to check it out. Too much to list. Competing hard with Google, my first love. They should stay friends - ha. But so what is great about Live.com is the folder thing, plus the subject line can be veerry long - a whole message. (I know, I have a ton of filters on Gmail, but each has its use.)

Hello!

Thanks for this excellent post regarding vufind and ubuntu! I was browsing around and came across vufind, perfect timing as I just became the new Electronic Resources Librarian and one of my top tasks is to modernize our web catalog.

We also use sirsi dynix, but I am having problems with the specific steps of exporting the data from sirsi in a format that can be used to import into vufind. Could you point me to some instructions that might assist me, or give me some guidance on how to do this?

Once again, thanks for sharing this excellent resource!
